Home improvement time. Today a new forced hot air natural gas
furnance was installed. The old furnace was removed and a new
one put in its place. This was also a good time to have the
breaker panel replaced. Central AC was also installed. Joyce
is going to love being cool in the summer without all the noise
from load window units and several fans setup to blow the air
around. The old furnace was original with the house, so it was about 45 years old. It has been somewhat tempermental over the years, but I was used to its quirks. The straw that broke the camel's back was when the blower motor started sticking. A brush or bearing was hanging the motor up and then the thermal breaker would trip. Banging on the motor would get it running again, so we left it running 24/7 for about 5 weeks. A co-worker recommended Frank's Heating Service. They had installed a similar system in his house in 2005. He also is good friends with the owner of the company. He also knows the electrician that Frank's uses. The supplies were all dropped off about 8:00 AM. The crews arrived about 8:40 AM and began the job. Power was out for about 2 and a half hours starting at 1:15 PM. The whole job was done by 3:30 PM and heat restored. The cost for the furnace and Central AC was $5770. Replacing the electrical panel ran about $500. I haven't received the bill for that yet. |
